Weight Loss & Five Other Fit Habits that Reduce Your Risk of Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer, affecting almost 85 of every 100,000 Americans. A new paper in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute shows evidence that for women 50 and older, virtually any amount of sustained weight loss translates to a reduction in breast cancer risk. However, it has been a long established fact that excess body weight is a risk factor for breast cancer as well. This is due to the elevated levels of estrogen produced by too much body fat.

Here are a few other Fit Habits that reduce the risk of breast cancer:

  1. Limit alcohol consumption – the link between alcohol and cancer is significant and is caused by increases in estrogen levels.
  2. Regular exercise – reduces inflammation and, as mentioned previously, can reduce overall body fat.
  3. Eat a Fiber Filled Diet – In a study of women who reported eating three servings of fiber-filled fruit as teenagers showed, their risk of developing breast cancer as an adult was reduced by 25%.
  4. Reduce Your Overall Fat Intake – A diet with reduced levels of fat and higher levels of produce and whole grains can reduce the risk of dying from breast cancer by 22%.
  5. Don’t Smoke – The risks are particularly high for people who start smoking at a young age.

Almost all of these measures are related to diet, exercise, and losing weight. If you need help getting on a more healthy path, contact us at Bikini Prep Coach.
